Meet our Staff

Christy Howard, LCSW, RPT-S, CAS

Hello everyone! I am Christy and I am the founder of Safari Kidz Kounseling LLC. This play therapy practice is a dream come true for me! I have over 15 years experience in the mental health field and well over 200 hours of play therapy specific training. Graduating from the University of Louisville in 1997, with my Bachelor's Degree, I majored in Psychology and minored in Communications. I started out my career as a volunteer phone counselor for the then, Crisis and Information Center in 1996. I became staff there in 1998 and worked while attending graduate school. I completed my Master's of Science in Social Work in 2001, via U of L's Kent School of Social Work.

Since obtaining my Master's I have largely worked in Community Mental Health specializing in working with trauma victims and young children. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and State Approved Supervisor in both Indiana (Since 2004) and Kentucky (since 2008). In 2010, I was fortunate enough to complete my play therapy training hours and acquired the Registered Play Therapist - Supervisor Credential. New in 2015! I have now obtained additional credentialing specific to the treatment of Autism Spectrum Disorders and have completed the AutPlay Level II Certification as well as the Certified Autism Specialist Credential. I have also worked with Integrated Listening Systems and offer ILS services in the office and home supervision programs for emotional regulation, ADHD, and much more! I am super excited to see what adventures lie ahead for me in the private practice world!

On a personal note: I know what it is like to be bored and I can certainly relate to children who express those feelings. I think my favorite phrase when I was a young child was "Mommy! I'm bored!" I probably said that hundreds of times a day and drove everyone around me crazy at times. I'm sure my mother is thrilled I am past that stage now (believe me it took years!). Perhaps all those days of being "bored" are what drives me to create, imagine, and dream of new and exciting ways to help children and their families make the most of their therapeutic journey. Although, I have to admit I can no longer say I'm bored. I have learned so much on this journey into private practice and each day is a brand new adventure! I guess you could say I am on a learning safari adventure all of the time, and I love it! Please contact me if you feel I could assist you or your family in identifying new solutions!
